Sam Kurnit is the Friendly Neighborhood Dungeon Master for Improvised Weapons.
Sam's bio:
I've been acting in some capacity or other since I was 5.
My parents were (and still are) part of a community theater group in New York City called the Village Light Opera Group; whenever they were doing a show that needed kids they said "We've got two of those!" and my sister and I were tapped for duty. Over the years with them I was involved in Carousel, The Boys from Syracuse, Brigadoon, Bells Are Ringing, and many more.
I also participated in my school theater programs, acting in The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Anything Goes, Hay Fever, Balmoral, The Zoo Story, and The Heidi Chronicles. In college at Boston University I was in 14 plays including Lonestar, Medea, Arsenic & Old Lace, Guys, and culminating in my role as Charlie in Flowers for Algernon.
College is also where I began doing and fell in love with improv. So much so that after graduating I moved to Chicago to go to the Second City. I went through the Acting and Improv for Actors programs there and then moved on to iO where I completed levels 1 through 5b. I performed at the Second City, iO, the Annoyance, The Pub Theatre, and at Sheil Park as Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men.
After living in Chicago for 6 years, my wife and I moved to New York City. While there I did some short films, appeared on 3 different shows on the Discovery ID network, and began my training in Voice Over. I trained for two years under Melanie Ehrlich also attending workshops with Andy Roth and Judy Keller.
Since then I have worked on video games, commercials (both radio and TV), web explainers, industrials, film narration, and audiobooks as well as being on a comic con panel about video game production and giving a talk to a group of local game developers about working with voice actors.
I now live in Burlington, VT where I continue to do voice over work. I teach improv at Vermont Comedy Club and perform there and around the state as part of Vermont Comedy Club Touring Company. I'm also a member of a local independent long form improv team called Gross & Fancy and have done several local TV commercials.
